hyperpaper newsletter #03 - fun, games, and procrastination

Hello, this is the hyperpaper newsletter. It's been a long time since the last issue, but I'm back with seasonal updates, a few fun links, and some ideas for the future.

Free Planner Demos for Nov/Dec 2024

It's November already! For the fourth year running, I’ve released free, fully functional planner pdf files for November & December. If you want to test drive the planner, this is a great way to jump in before building your own custom version for the new year. Free downloads (both lined and dotted) are available for the reMarkable, Supernote, and Kindle Scribe. If you'd like to try it with a different tablet let me know.

Discount for 2025

As a thank you to returning customers and newsletter subscribers, I'm offering a 15% discount on the hyperpaper planner for the new year. Enter ${redacted discount code here - sorry, subscribers only} at checkout - this code is good until the end of November. If you've already purchased for 2025 (thank you!) I have added a 2026 option in the order form, so you can use the code for that as well.

Fun and Games on your E-Ink Tablet

E-ink tablets aren't just for note-taking and productivity—they can be used for many low-tech activities and games. This fun & games blog post lists a few of my favourites.

Structured Procrastination

"The procrastinator can be motivated to do difficult, timely and important tasks, as long as these tasks are a way of not doing something more important." This article has been around for a while, but I love it so much. It bears a striking resemblence to how my Todo list gets tackled a lot of the time.

What should I work on next year?

I'd love to hear your opinion on what I should work on next. What are the gaps and annoyances in working with your e-ink tablet? Here are a few of my ideas– some of which I've already been experimenting with:

  • More templates for the planner (what would you like to see?)
  • A way to extract your notes as text from your handwriting on the planner pdf, and organize them in a way that can be archived, searched, and navigated on your computer
  • A service to build a daily newspaper from internet sources (news sites, reddit, newsletters) and send it to your tablet
  • The reMarkable and Kindle Scribe have poor-to-nonexistant support for ePub books. But there are thousands of outstanding public-domain books in that format! I'm considering making freely downloadable versions of some of these works, in pdf files designed for ~10" tablets.
  • "Bring your own template". The planner already supports dozens of customizable templates, but sometimes people have very specific needs and only a custom template will do. What if you could upload a .png and have it used for your monthly/weekly/other collection pages?
  • Any other ideas??

Just reply to this email if any of that sounds interesting, I'd love to hear your thoughts!
